While admittedly the local paper does indeed report such seemingly trivial news I think it is a little unfair to imply this is the best news they can come up with all week when in fact the said publication is daily.
For an island with over 60,000 people very little of interest appears to happen. Often "news" in both the paper and radio will consist of a relatively trivial local news article which will be followed up for several days by minor local politicians' comments, observations or general remarks about the said article.
This is then classified as "news" and the discussions will normally continue until something else trivial happens to they can report that and start the cycle again.
