I remember being quite resentful of the Cabbage Patch craze as a young girl. I was already a bit of an outcast, but refusing the idolize the little dolls meant I was just plain socially unacceptable to my female peers. Luckily, I find that the passage of time heals all wounds.
Anyway, I felt this article was marvelously complete and useful. It explains very well why CPK were such a phenomenon. And you never know, they could be again with the right marketing...

Yup, good article. I never ever understood why they were so popular, and I'm constantly surprised that they're still available. "popcorn" hair indeed.

Quite an interesting article, although the depths of their initial popularity is understated. I remember seeing a picture in the newspaper around Christmas 1983 or 1984 of a store manager of a Fays drug store standing out in front of his store holding a baseball bat and pointing at a sign that said "No Cabbage Patch Kids".
I also remember stories of little old ladies fistfighting each other in department stores over the last CPK.
