A Conversation for Preventing Sock Loss

What not to do

Don't make the mistake I did of buying multiple pairs of the same socks. My thought was that, by having all my socks the same, two lost socks would be equivalent to one lost pair, as opposed to each lost sock resulting in one lost pair and one found duster.

It doesn't work - although they look the same in the shop, over time you discover that each pair is slightly different. Not different enough to distinguish one from the other when you are "pairing up" after the wash, but certainly different enough to notice once you have them on your feet (or, more often, once you have your shoes on and are just far enough away from home to make returning out of the question).

Discreet patterns (all different) high enough up the leg not to be noticed under normal walking conditions, or an appreciation of silly (or serious) slogans or pictures make pairing up much easier.

smiley - run
