I have a huge odd sock problem, and I'm failry certain it's not just due to this washing machine factor. It's an unsolveable problem, but I have found one solution... Wear sandels.

All my socks (well the 5 pairs I have) look the same. So even if I'm wearing an odd pair (sometimes the pairs _feel_ different - don't ask why, I haven't a clue) nobody else will know.
I take it you're totally against wearing socks with sandles then?

you only have 5 pairs? aww, you poor, poor soul. How do you manage?

Hey, I wrote a long rambling entry on how sock loss is all to do with evil gremlins, and it wasn't included in this article
I've occasionally gone walking with three socks (not three pairs - three socks). Every day I take off the left one, move the right one to the left foot, put on the spare one and wash the ex-left one. This rotation system works fine except that one foot always has a slightly older sock than the other.
Oh and I have a huge bunch of uniformly grey socks; I've long forgotten which belong to which.

No? I thought it was the height of fashion.

When it's too cold for sandels, long trousers work, then you can just forget about the whole concept of wearing pairs altogether (so Victorian don't u think?)...

I hate socks. In fact I hate anything on my feet apart from shoes. So I tend to have way too many with the 5 pairs. (which means, that living in rainy Europe, I often have cold feet)
I like the sock rotation thing, a bit like the sheet rotation thing we did at school (boarding).

Odd socks have constantly been a major source of stress and anxiety in my house. It's an unmanageable problem. The odd sock pile just grows and grows... Buying more socks (even if they are all the same) jsut seems to feed it.

Surely this owes something to BistroMath? Maybe someone more technically minded could work out the complex paradigm that is the mathematics of sock loss...

I heard somewhere that at the back of the washing machine there is a wormhole that branches and leads to every single belly button of everyone in the world: belly button fluff.

It's intersting... I greatly enjoy both barefootedness and the fresh warm feel of a fluffy, clean, brand new pair of socks - but also don't mind shoes with no socks, sandals with socks , etc. Easy to please in the footwear department I suppose.
