Nice article... I have read something somewhere about Mussorgsky composing it because he was a friend of Hartmann's (who was somebody who what we might call" enjoyed" ill health;apparently).Mussorgsy met Hartmann, who as usual started complaining about his health,Mussorgsky dismissed his complaints.."Oh, you'll be fine..you look terrific..etc"; then a few days later poor old Hartmann snuffed it.So Mussorgsky felt terribly guilty....
