A Conversation for Grooming Tips

As a man of "more mature years" I find I have more time to reflect on the important things on life. Your topic of beauty aids has caused me to consider one of the conundrums of life, what is the purpose of hair ? I assume it is there for some form of protection against the elements, at least the hair on your head provides that, but if that is so, why is it that when you need it the most, when you get old and frail, you loose it from your head and it starts to grow from every other orifice, especially your nose and ears. What is the purpose of nose hair ?

An important thing to reflect on, indeed! One purpose might be to give h2g2 researchers somthing worthy of writing about, as trivial issues such as the local politics are deemed unacceptable in this company.
Nose hair...designed as a filter to keep pollution and dust and other nasties from having easy access to the respiratory system. I have no idea why they proliferate with age, though. My sneaking suspicion is that, in the grand scheme of things, they make their presence known as we get older and our capacity for vigorous exersize diminishes. That way we can still have some form of entertainment. The options abound! You can obsess and trim em regularily, or if you're the more creative sort, you can make braids. If you're lacking in sensory stimulus you can pluck them, one by one, and know from the pain that you're still alive. If you're a female who has never been blessed with facial hair to mess with, you can even wax them into a mustache and impersonate Salvadore Dali.
For every thing there IS a reason!

Because when you're old and frail bacteria form a bigger risk, so the filter has to filter more, and thus you grow more "filterhair"?

Plucking a nasal hair has got to be the most painful thing one can do to oneself.
Facial hair on a female?
Bleach the moustache ones.
Pluck the chin ones {unless they are coming out of a mole}.
If you can afford it, get your eyebrows waxed.
Underarm hair...Immac or other dipilatory cream.
Messy I know but you don't have to do it every other day {if you are as dark as I am}, when you shave....
Legs....I shave them every bath time.
Bikini line.....Never shave! Painful regrowth, comparable {to your partner} to getting fresh with a hedgehog...
Also those little spots form at the base of the hair folicle...
Waxing? Painful....the last time I went to a professional waxer, she took off as much skin as she did hair. Very painful...
So I'd again recommend the Immac...
What a pity I'm not on commission

Hi G.B.
Some of us were "blessed" with body hair that is valiantly determined to resist depilatory creams...the hairs wither, but won't die. To avoid those irritating red bumps in the bikini area, apply toner with SD-20 alcohol in it after shaving. Just enough to make it tingle--not enough to make you run screaming nekkid through the house.

All this in the name of beauty.
I sympathize with the non-dissolvable hair problem.
But I will never shave my bikini area again.
Too many unforgettable {bad} experiences.
Now I only remove hair there if I'm going to the beach/swimming etc. Exposing said area.

Rather than shave my bikini line at all, I wear 'boy style' bottoms, which are like very short shorts. They're more comfortable than regular bathing suits too!

Wish we could start a fashion for female body hair - then we wouldn't have to go to all the bother and expense of fighting the damn stuff so regularly.
What we need to start the ball rolling is a few respected men saying how attractive they find it - and then a few respected women displaying furry armpits and legs etc.
Not sure if it'll catch on. ?
Well it'll probably catch on our undies.

Deoderant after shaving is bad enough...after Immac...lets just say the pain lasted for over a week and put me right off the stuff.
Although I've heard reports that nair is cheaper and more effective...anyone know if thats true or not?
I wonder if immac would work on nosehair

A chap I used to know bought a nose-hair remover for his father - it was like a car's cigarette-lighter which you put up your nose to singe off the stragglers.
