Dry and cracked skin seems to be directly related to high blood sugar levels. If you get it often,especially if it takes a long time to heal, it might be worth getting a blood test done to make sure you aren't diabetic.

very true, my mother-in-law suffered from diabetes and had a terrible time with dry cracked skin. it always looked so painful
