A Conversation for The English Civil War
Amazingly silly, those royals

It never fails to bring a smile to my face, how silly monarchs, pharoahs, emperors, et al, sound when they equate their place in the world with God's.
Referring to the quote: The state of Monarchie is the supremest thing vpon earth: for Kings are not onely Gods Lieutenants vpon earth, and sit vpon Gods throne, but euen by God himselfe they are called Gods.
- James I, in a Speech to the Lords and Commons of Parliament at Whitehall, 21 March, 1609.
Even as silly goes, this quote is especially funny; more so, if you assume that Jimmy really felt that a god or gods would consider him such. Ah, what fools these mortals be - W. Shakespeare
