A Conversation for The English Civil War

Anyone with an interest in the English Civil War might find the music of William Lawes [1602-1645] interesting too. He was appointed as one of Charles the First's private musicians and wrote some fine music. I can recommend an excellent recording of Lawes' 'Royal Consort Suites' by the Purcell Quartet, which is available on Chandos Records.

Just further to the William Lawes posting.
yes, the CD mentioned is very good and so is the recent Phantasm disc
but I'd thouroughly recommend
a new £9.99 2 CD re-issue on Virgin Veritas-

William Lawes: Consort Setts for 5 & 6 Viols 7243 5 62001 2 8

It's great! Music that would probably have been played at Court with
Charles himself on bass viol. (!)
