A Conversation for Caltrain Rail Service, California, USA

IMPORTANT: What's new on Caltrain

Post 1

Hey, Editors! Please update this entry to reflect the following tidbits.

1. The predicted suspension of weekend service is now fact. It will
begin on July 6, 2002, and continue for 22 months or so. Although
there will be replacement bus service, it will service neither
airport stop. This means that tourists arriving on the weekend
should not include Caltrain in their plans.

2. The surcharge for failing to buy a ticket before boarding has
risen to $3 (from $1). The automated ticket vending machines at
all stations are now up and running.

3. If you are traveling to San Francisco from points south, note that
all San Francisco stops are in Zone "SF", not Zone 1. Buying a
ticket to zone 1 will not be enough. The ticket vending machines
are confusing on this point.

4. Due to the severe downturn in the local economy, fewer people,
and thus fewer bicycles, are riding Caltrain. This means that
the likelihood of bicyclists' being bumped from rush-hour trains
has gone down.

Enjoy!

Brian

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
