John the gardener says, "Free Tibet!"

Good news!

According to Radio Free Asia, Ngawang Sangdrol has been given an exit visa by the Chinese government, and is reported to be in Chicago, USA, where she will receive medical treatment for a heart condition (and assorted other ailments) made worse by years of brutal treatment in prison.

Dear John-the-Gardener,

While looking for the nuns-in-a-bus joke on hootoo search, I saw Ngawang Sangdrol's name listed and immediately came to check out the entry. I am delighted to see that you had put up such a thorough, detailed and well-informed entry on her. When I am not being Chaiwallah on hootoo, my name is Anthony OBrien, and I was one of the founders of Tibet Support Ireland. I see from your personal space that you live in Canada, whee Tibet Support in various forms is exemely active. Have you been in touch with the likes of Sam, (Samten) or Nima, who are both involved with the WTN news service?

I have so far not written any guide entries on the political aspects of Tibet, though I have had one Front-Paged recently on the Tonglen technique.

But a guide entry is certainly due now on the recent terrible business of the Nepalese turning over 18 Tibetan refugees to the Chinese authorities.

Look forward to hearing from you,

smiley - cheers

Hi Chaiwallah,

I read your Tonglen Entry: Great stuff! smiley - cheers

I'm glad you liked the Ngawang Sangdrol piece. I've written a few things about Tibet, including a Uni project: Tibet, Occupation and Exile (A643862). I've tried to be as thorough as possible with the research; although there are probably all sorts of gaps and inaccuracies.

I've exchanged email with Sam, but I haven't met him personally. Sam recently gave me a tip on an article in the Montreal Gazette so that I could write a passionate response before the paper came out. smiley - winkeye

The deportations from Nepal is very troubling. I don't know if there is a Nepalese diplomatic mission to Canada. I've not been able to find anything.
