A Conversation for The Paul McCartney Death Clues
Doctor Who
Bluebottle Posted Sep 24, 2001
I belong to the view that almost any Who is better than no Who. Those Doctor Who fans who protest and write letters of complain each time a film is proposed because they want another series are, alas, shooting themselves in the foot as one can spawn the other.
A film can be dramatic, and it can feature an entirely new enemy, or a familiar one that everyone has heard of, such as the Daleks, without having too many continuity references, and still be true to the spirit of Doctor Who. Afterall, the Daleks, Master and Cybermen all at one time were New enemies, new characters. No reason why a film cannot introduce another new enemy, even one that can become as popular and recurring as the Daleks.
I went to see A.I. and was impressed. I lot has been said about the ending, many feel that it is unconventional, an attempted twist etc., but to me it felt like the natural ending, and a beautifully effective one at that. A very Speilberg film, too fast to even appear to bve Kubrick's style, but definately worth seeing.

well that's it something is better than not at all,
I'd like to see AI, and have heard mixed rewiews, but it maybe sometime before I see it,
my wife's birthday today, I got her a pair of shoes she wanted and the best of eddie grant cd, which isn't bad
I see paul mC is doing a consert in new york for the stuff that happened and will be releasing a new album, so i'm looking forward to it

Bluebottle Posted Sep 25, 2001
I hadn't heard about the New York concert, but I've heard rumours about the new album since the start of the year, about 3 different names for it, the only one I can think of at the moment was "Blue Skies", and that the first half would be love songs for Linda, the second half love songs for Heather. I wonder if they'll broadcast the concert - do you know when it is?

don't know anything more about the consert, yeah I'd heard about the album, i'll be getting it when its out,
what about the red dwarf film that was/is happening have you anything about that?
Doctor Who
Bluebottle Posted Sep 26, 2001
I haven't heard anything for a while, but did see a few storyboard sketches that were released a few months back - they didn't actually show anything that would give away any jokes, but seemed to have Kryten trapped in a pile of rubble, possibly a wrecked spaceship, and surrounded by water. That's the last I heard - if I hear any more I'll let you know.
Do you know what the release date will be for the album?

I'm still a bit dubious about the rd film, haveinh not entirely liked the last couple of series, I'll see what's its like though
no no idea about the album
I did order the best of carl perkins, I was looking a while ago for a collection of his music, so i'll see what its like when it comes.

Bluebottle Posted Sep 28, 2001
I think we'd all like to see what the film's like - it will definately be one to see, and hopefully it will be good. We lie in hope.
I've just finished reading Arthur C. Clarke & Stephen Baxter's "The Light Of Other Days" - a good book, except that it has too many of Arthur C. Clarke's obsessive lectures in, and the ending spoils it.

I'm still reading 2061, but I'm not going to fast with it, 2010 is on TCM tonight, but I don't have sky and my friend has the house all to himself this weekend so next time.
more of the paul mc consert, I heard that its in october (21?), and also sheryl crow, david bowie and people will be there, according to what I heard, but I'm not counting on anything, including where it said it will be televised and a live cd released, looks good though.
my friend also lent me the shawshank redemption on dvd he got it off the internet for £7.99, he's not got a dvd player though, he says he's building up his collection for when he does have one.

The concert sounds interesting - I was told they had one a couple of days ago that was so cheesy that it was pretty much unwatcheable, but I was at work at the time. I'll see what happens about it - I wouldn't be surprised if they did release a CD of it, though - they did after Princess Diana's death, afterall. Paul McCartney had a track from "Flaming Pie" on it, "Calico Skies", although I feel that perhaps "The World Tonight" would have been more appropriate, especially the verse that goes:
"I saw you hiding from a flock of paparazzi / You were hoping, you were hoping that the ground would swallow you....
I can see the world tonight, look into the future, see it in a different light. I can see the world tonight."
It would give the Paul McCartney death clue believers something to think about (we've not mentioned the article this thread is off for a while).
The Kubrick box set my girlfriend and I ordered finally arrived today, so I'm looking forward to seeing that. At the moment, I don't have a DVD player, but as she has one, I'm able to watch all the Doctor Who one's I've bought, even if it's only 3 so far.

I read in the paper that paul had asked george and ringo to join him at the consert, that'd be good, weather it happends though..........
how's the boxed set, I've been meaning to watch the shining again but not done so
did you see the start of the new series of randall and hopkirk deceased, not bad
have we mentioned thenew strt trek series, ste before the original?
Doctor Who
Bluebottle Posted Oct 1, 2001
No, we haven't talked about the new Star Trek series, so far all I've heard about it is rumours - Captain Archer, Enterprise etc. Nothing more that I can really comment on. I'm just waiting to see what it's like, but to be honest I'm less bothered about Star Trek than I was about 5 years ago, when I was an avid fan. Doctor Who is taking over my life more
I missed the first episode of Randall & Hopkirk, which is a shame as I was hoping to see that. That's the same problem with the nwe Box Set. Although I'm beginning to have the money to buy videos & DVDs again, I no longer have enough time to watch them all. Oh well...

I like the next generation, and started deep space nine, and voyager but not bothering so much with them now, I'v started voyager again but not deep space nine, I'll see what the new series is like,
the randall and hopkirk was good, nice to see tom baker in it
Doctor Who
Bluebottle Posted Oct 2, 2001
Yes, I heard that he was in it, what does he look like now? I saw Peter Davidson being interviewed about a crime drama he was going to be in, and he looks the same as ever. Jon Pertwee never seemed to age, but then his hair was always silver, whereas Tom's looks completely different to when he was the Doctor.

older and white hair, colin's different too, greyer hair, fatter, I hear there's going to be another series of at home with the brathwaites, which I quite liked,
I watches tales from the crypt the flim done in 1972, not bad , I saw some of the series, quite like stuff like that twilght zone tales of the unexpected and things
Doctor Who
Bluebottle Posted Oct 4, 2001
I never really started watching At Home With The Brathwaites, but if it's on when I'm not working, I'll see what it's like. The only things on TV I've been watching recently has been "The Blue Planet" and "Extinct". I'm thinking about getting the "Walking With Dinosaurs" DVD when I get paid next, I wonder if they'll have the Television Licence advert as an extra? Hope so.
I never really watched "Tales From The Crypt" either. At the moment, I've a friend who's trying to get me into King Kong. I've seen the 1933 film and the 1976 remake, which I thought was among the best remakes I've seen, so I might be persuaded to see more.

At Home With The Brathwaites, I've enjoyed very much, it had/has a certain something to it, I never thought they could do a second andthen I read that the actress said she only does two series of anything so i'm quite surprised when she said she's doing another.
I saw a bit of The Blue Planet, and liked it, haven't watched it since though
can't think of what dvds I like next, besides doctor who, there's a lot I'd like...........
don't think i've seen king kong whats the 33 one like
Doctor Who
Bluebottle Posted Oct 8, 2001
The 1933 one is definately a classic - a film that you have to see in your lifetime, especially if you are a fan of stop-motion animation. It's better than the animation they were doing in the 50s and early 60s in many ways. I think that the 1976 has a more realistid story and is in many ways a better film, but most would disagree with me. It's a must see, anyway.

well i'll try to get round to it
I see the new doctor who boxed set is out the daleks wh smith exclusive one, I was tempted but as I already have them on bought video, I think I won't bother, I saw the daleks remasterd video for £4.99 in MVC and that was tempting too, so are a lot of cheap videos, but now i buying dvd I don't know..........
I watched the shawshank redemption dvd if I haven't said, first time I saw it very good.

I've had quite a busy week - I'll tell you about it later.
For now, I'm looking forward to mid-November, as Terry Pratchett is doing a book signing in Southampton city-centre. I've wanted a paperback copy of "The Truth" for a while, so I might as well get a signed one! I also bought the "Walking With Dinosaurs" DVD - I am quite impressed with it, and it's been useful to watch as I've started writing an article for H2G2 on dinosaurs.
I'll have to look out for the Davros set in W.H.Smiths. It's a shame they're not sold seperately as I don't have "Revelation of the Daleks", but as I have the others it's not worth getting.

I went to a doctor who convention a year ago, and wanted an autograph or two, but the ques were diabolical, can't be bothered to wait.
I never saw much of the walking with dinosaurs, but I'll have a look at your article, I'cve been writing one4 on planet of the apes, but its a bit long so i'll either split it into two or cut out some of the storylines, I've out it up but its not finnished yet
Talking about the planet of the apes I see the dvd boxed set it out, but I have the box of the videos and the dvd has an extra dvd, ans as i got all the alien dvd's seporate i saw in the paper that woolworths has brough down there alien box dvd to 29.99!!!!!!!!!
I listened to death comes to time last night, ok but not great, but my connection isn't that good.
