well i hope all goes well for your interviews, i hated job centres and the whole finding a job thing, sounds like itys not been much fun.
I never really saw any of the red dwarf remastered episodes just a couple of clips as I had them all on video, but the new effects and addede bits didn't impress me at all.
I'm reading terry pratchetts's the carpet people, and planning to read life the universe and everthing after it its been such a long time since i last read it.
we have now got two weeks off so having more or less finished the decorating I can relax for a while, though I expect i'll be back at work before I know it.

I know the feeling - I often need holidays to recover from the holiday. Doing nothing can soon become so exhausting, which is why its best to keep busy. The course I was doing has ended now, so I'll have to see what else I can do to keep myself occupied before I get a job. I now have to wait 4 weeks before I get my certificate!
I read "The Carpet People" years ago, I thought it was okay, but I do prefer his Discworld series. But definately worth a read. I've not read the Hitchhiker's Guide books for some time now, but I really enjoyed reading all the Dirk Gently ones when I finally got "Salmon Of Doubt", so I'll have to give them another read soon.

Me - same old looking for a job, and was ill all Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, so I wasn't able to attend the interviews I had planned for then - and as its a bank holiday, they're all re-scheduled to Tuesday now, which means I'll be busy. At the moment I'm just happy to be able to do things other than lie down trying to sleep.
I've also had to fill in several pointless forms that ask pointless questions as I made the mistake of trying to apply for jobseeker's allowance. It really isn't worth it as by the time you've filled in the forms, filled in the forms clarifying the obvious that you wrote on the forms, clarrified the clarifications, explained that yes, you did resign from your last job, but that was because you moved 250 miles from Southampton to Leeds and commuting was not really a practical option about 20 times and finally are able to start claiming, you've already got a job.

I hope I will as well. Today I've been bothered by some of the recruitment agencies I've signed up with - they phoned up at 9:30 asking me to come to an interview at 11, only for there to be no interview as they had already decided to put someone else forward for the job... A complete waste of time.
The other interview I had today I think went well.
Good luck with the cooker!

well the cooker finally got comnnected last thursday two weeks after it was delivered - for the first time, yeah its good.
I'm gettinmg sky digital, can't really afford it but...., I figure i might not buy so many dvds and such and it would be nice to see all those programs i like, and i can tape all the doctor who episodes again.
I see in the paper about the george harison album, that he left notes on how he wanted it to be produced and story boards for how he wanted a video to look, did say when though.
how the job hunting?.
life
Bluebottle Posted Sep 4, 2002
I saw that the George Harrison album is getting press again - and I was beginning to wonder if it had been forgotten about! I'd love to know when it's actually going to be released...
I've still got no job as yet - but am getting more interviews, so that's a good sign. Most of this week seems to be spent at the laundry as the washing machine broke down - but a new one's arrived today.

well there was that documentary about george that was going to be on around christmas but never happened either, I can only hope that there will be some big media campaign, with the documentary, dvd and album, but that's just wishfull thinking.
i'm sure a job will turn up sooner or later.
I'm reading life the universe and everything, I got the live video that douglas adams did reading bit from the books, and its sems such a long time since I read LUE so very enjouable.

I keep hearing a lot of contradictory rumours - I don't know the truth in any of them, so we'll see what happens.
Still no news on the job front, which is beginning to get depressing. I apply for about 8 jobs a day now, and after 2 months you'd expect that one would turn up!

well i see you've posted a couple of times so hopefully your back.
you'd think I'd have a lot to say but other than starting to read 3001, i can't seem to think of much,
have you got a job yet?.
life
Bluebottle Posted Oct 19, 2002
Hello again - long time no write, I fear!
Yes, I have now got a job, I work for a company called Firth Powerfix, which sells power tools. I've been put in charge of selling spare parts for drills etc, so that if someone's drill's motor has blown and they need a new one, I'm the guy who finds out which is the right motor for that drill and sends it to them. Which is all very well except that I know nothing about powertools! When the customer says "you know that springy thing inside the front of the drill by the screw" I never have the faintest idea of what they're talking about, and as I have to stay in an office, I never get a chance to learn about the insides of drills hands on, but merely from diagrams on a PC. Oh well, its a living .
By the time I get home it's after 6pm, so when I've had dinner it's pretty much time for bed as I have to get up at 6am to get there for 8am, so there hasn't been time for H2G2 since I started.
I've been looking around for "The Aztecs" DVD for ages now - no-where in Leeds sells it - not HMV, Virgin, WH Smiths or Woolworths - the only place I've found it is Forbidden Planet for £19:99, and I've got too used to paying £16:99 for my Doctor Who DVDs. So I'm quite annoyed about that. I'm also annoyed about the Smiths boxset as I want to get "The Wargames", but there's no point in getting the boxset which contains "The Three Doctors" only for it to come out on DVD the next month, so I'm not sure what I'll do about that...
But mostly, the last month has consisted of me working, although I did go home to the Island for a week, which I enjoyed a lot. I miss all my old friends more than I ever thought.

well i'm glad you got a job, even if you haven't got so much time, tools i don't know so much about either. I live over the road from where i work so i usually get upo about 50 minutes before i start. well done though.
the aztecs dvd comes out monday 21 october, which is why you haven't seen it, ity was suposed to come out a couple of weeks ago so...., I get mine off play.com for £14.99, the best i've seen, also AI artiffical intelligence, I'm getting from there for £7.99.
i'd like the video box sets but it just doesn't seem worthwhile, the first two tins they did were great, but the third the dalek or cybermen, were not so special, same thing just different design, the master was the same again so i didn't bother. The ice warriors and space museeum/crusade i got as they were more than just the videos, the five doctor as it was extended and the e-space trilogy i got. but if they're just the episodes and nithing else then i can't be botherd, if they're going to do something special then make it special. I've got most of the episode any so I think i'll wait for the dvd's.
life
Bluebottle Posted Oct 19, 2002
That's the thing - at the moment, if they are going to release them on DVD, it probably is better to wait until they're released then, but how many stories with missing episodes are they likely to release on DVD? I imagine they would, sooner or later, but am I really prepared to wait? Episodes they show on UK Gold I agree that there's no point in buying on video unless it is a special boxset with CDs etc like "Space Museum/Crusade", but then I've never seen them on UK Gold. Oh well...
In any case, it'll soon be the 40th Anniversary, so I imagine there'll be lots of Doctor Who DVDs etc. released next year to go with my videos with the 30th Anniversary stamp on.

well i got the two dvds i ordered today, I saw red planet last night not bad not great either, been listening to a bit of John Lennon lately, i got the 4 cd box anthology, not bad.
yeah missing episodes stories are probably worth buying on video, but I think the only story they could really release as a near to whole story is The Reign of Terror which 4 of the 6 episodes still exist, the others i could only see being released as a package of odd episodes like the hartnell years and such, them i'd buy.
life
Bluebottle Posted Oct 22, 2002
This weekend I hope to get "The Aztecs" and "Walking With Beasts" on DVD, but we'll see how much I get paid on Thursday. I agree that most of the missing epiosodes ones probably won't make it to video, which is a shame as I was very impressed with how they did "The Tenth Planet", and feel that it could work. Even having occasional pictures of what's going on helps give it a bit more atmosphere than just listening to the soundtracks. But videos like "The Troughton Years" etc are good to get to see some of them - I've been looking for a copy of "The Hartnell Years" for a while now, but haven't found one yet.
I must admit I've thought about the John Lennon Anthology, but have been put off by the £50+ price tag. Did you find it somewhere cheaper?
<BB<
life
Seagull's Lost Horizon Posted Oct 22, 2002
the tenth planet was quite good, and i can't see why they can't do the rest like it, there must be a lot more photo's they could use, that they could alter to fit the other pictures, along with the clips and bits and peices, they could even do some animation for missing episodes to fit the sound track, might be better than nothing!.
the john lennon anthology i got when it came out, cost about £34.99 i think, I've seen copies on the internet, not quite sure how much though, i have got most of his stuff, not got the mind games album , and a couple of other things.

Bluebottle Posted Oct 23, 2002
I don't have half as many John Lennon albums as I'd like - they're always ones I plan to get when I get money and get around to getting, but just haven't yet. I've only got 5 so far - same with George Harrision albums, I don't have as many of them as I'd like. The trouble is I don't have money to get everything I'd like, and can't imagine I ever will!
Did you read in the papers today that the BBC have won the rights to keep all merchandise rights from the Tardis as apparently the Police sued claiming that, as the Tardis is a Police Box, the Police should get a share of all money from it.
