A Conversation for British Summer Time

It must be Summer, it's smokin'.

Friday was beautiful. The green of the South Downs, visible above the terracotta rooftiles of the house opposite, looked majestic against the pale blue, cloudless sky.

I opened the creaky patio doors for the first time this year and found the air to be fresh and invigorating.

This is the type of day that makes you want to do something, go somewhere. That expensive mountain bike is still in the garage, still coated in the mud from the last ride up Chanctonbury Ring. Or should I stick to more domestic tasks. Match pots still in the kitchen waiting for a sunny day to paint on the pebbledash and brighten up the exterior. The new trampoline, still boxed and waiting for someone to put it up.

I know I'll hang the washing up, save energy and let it dry naturally. Oh, hang on, what's that? No, surely not, no you can't, that's not fair! That smell, small pieces of black snow fluttering over the fence, next door is having a BONFIRE!!!

Yes, that's how we celebrate summer in Sussex. Light a bonfire because it's warm and dry and things burn really well. I think i'll close the door and check out Sky +.

Hang on a minute. No I won't. Having a bonfire is the most anti-social thing that you can do to your neighbours on a summers day. I'm going to sort this out once and for all. Where's that hose pipe?!

What a lovely image, totally ruined by someone else's fire. Thanks for sharing it with us!
