does not refer to the month of May but the flower of the same name (the Mayflower of the blossom of the hawthorn.)

There actually isn't any evidence to confirm that "may" refers to the blossom and not the month of May. It's a theory. I would like to hear from anyone with evidence...
Apart from that, the article itself is of very high quality and it's a pity the author isn't allowed to name himself/herself. Credit where credit is due for sense of humour, wit and the ability to write in good English.
