The h2g2 Christmas Get Together 2000 - Details

0 Conversations

Remember, remember the 25th November.

Not quite how the rhyme should go, but for better reasons. On Saturday 25th November it's the
annual h2g2 staff and researchers Christmas Party.

The Details - In Brief

  • 1pm - Abi will meet researchers unsure of directions under the big clock in Waterloo Station.
  • 2pm - General day time meet up at the Elephant and Castle Superbowl.
  • 6pm - Evening meet up at the Wellington on the Strand.

The Details - In Detail

1pm -

Abi has agreed to loiter with intent in Waterloo Train Station. This is so that anyone coming into London, who either doesn't know where to go, or just doesn't fancy travelling across London on their own can meet up in an easy to find public place.

Waterloo Station is the station you arrive in from the South of England and is on the Bakerloo, Jubilee tube lines and the west (left hand side looking at the map) branch of the Northern line.
The Big Clock is in the main part of the train station and is one of those places that everybody arranges to meet as it really is easy to find. So, if you can't see it, just look for groups of tourists.

2pm -

Don't worry as bowling isn't compulsory, they also have a bar. You can either have a go at getting beaten by Mark Moxon, or loiter and chat with fellow researchers. Bowling costs £3.50 per person, per game.

The nearest Tube Station is:-

Elephant and Castle -

Northern and Bakerloo lines

NOTE:

THE BAKERLOO LINE WILL BE CLOSED FOR MAINTAINANCE THIS WEEKEND.

The Elephant and Castle station in on the branch of the Northern Line that goes Via Bank. When boarding a train, please check on the boards that it is going Via Bank.

From Waterloo:

Take the Northern Line south to Kennington, then north again Via Bank to Elephant and Castle. This does mean that you head into Zone 2 on the Tube map, but it is the easiest way, there are others.

From Liverpool Street:

Take the Central Line west to Bank, then the Northern Line south to Elephant and Castle.

From Paddington:

Take the Circle Line East to Moorgate, then the Northern Line South to Elephant and Castle.

From Kings Cross:

Take the Northern Line Via Bank straight to Elephant and Castle.

From Victoria:

Take the Victoria Line south to Stockwell, then the Northern Line Via Bank to Elephant and Castle. This also goes into Zone 2.

From Euston:

Take the Northern Line south Via Bank to Elephant and Castle.

The Bowling Alley itself is situated on the top floor of the Elephant and Castle Shopping Centre. A huge concrete monstrosity which is painted red and signposted from the exits of the Tube. Once inside the shopping centre head for the escalators in the middle and go up to the top floor. At the top of the escalators you should see the bowling alley next to the Bingo Hall. Inside the coffee bar is on the left and the alcohol bar is on the right as you go through the doors. Oh, and the bowling lanes are straight in front of you.

6pm -

The Wellington

351 the Strand

The drinking isn't compulsory, so don't feel obliged. An area on the first floor will be reserved for us.

The nearest Tube Station is:-

Charing Cross -

Northern and Bakerloo lines

NOTE:

THE BAKERLOO LINE WILL BE CLOSED FOR MAINTAINANCE THIS WEEKEND.

The Charing Cross station in on the branch of the Northern Line that goes Via Charing Cross. When boarding a train, please check on the boards that it is going Via Charing Cross.

From Waterloo:

Take the Northern Line north to Charing Cross.

From Liverpool Street:

Take the Central Line west to Tottenham Court Road, then the Northern Line south to Charing Cross.

From Paddington:

Take the Circle Line west/south to Embankment, then the Northern Line north to Charing Cross.

From Kings Cross:

Take the Picadilly Line south to Leicester Square, then the Northen Line south to Charing Cross.

From Victoria:

Take the Central or District Lines to Embankment, then the Northern Line north to Charing Cross.

From Euston:

Take the Northern Line south to Charing Cross, not forgetting to check that it's one of the ones going Via Charing Cross.

Charing Cross Station is itself on the Strand, so if you come out of the main exit, turn right and head up the Strand away from Trafalgar Square. The pub's about a five minute walk on the North side of the Strand. The stairs to get up to the first floor are just inside the front door, on the left.

The Evening will also include a fun pub quiz, themed on 'h2g2, the site and the Community'. This is being organised by Abi and Pastey, and the current bribe rate for Abi is one Matthew Pinsent.
