"Most of us know that dogs have a lower intelligence threshold than cats"
That's rather a sweeping statement, don't you think? As a dog-owner, I am a little bit miffed!! Has H2G2 been taken over by rabid cat-lovers!!
In the interests of journalistic integrity, I insist that you provide references to the scientific studies that support such a claim.

well i have 30 some dogs and i belive the is a subtle cat lovers
take over let's let them know how dog lovers feel!! after all when was the first {or last for that matter} a team of cats brought your
sled in to nome?
or when did a cat round up your livestock? how many cats have medals {not bought in a jewlery store} for heroics
dog lovers unite it's our universe !
