Congratulation! This is a great read. It sounds just perfect Wazungu. You must know this place very well indeed. You describe it like a person who really loves the area. I enjoyed reading it ever so much.

Marsh marigolds are very abundant round here. We call them "May Blobs". They look like big butter cups. smiley - smiley

A seconder to Sal's salutations! Well done Waz ... a great article that makes me want to jump on a plane and come on over (just as did your description of Barra). And it made the editor's selection! It reads so well, and your love for the place shines through. It is so inspiring reading such a positive entry.
Great stuff indeed.
Bran.

Hi Waz,

Oh yes, can I please 'third' StM's and Bran's comments. Enchanting. Encore!!!! And the editor's pick as well; I mean it doesn't get any better than that. Congratulations.

Walter.

The Unmentionable Marauding Pillowcase

Hi, Wazungu, this sounds like a very nice place to visit. I am happy to learn that the Scots take nature conservation seriously; may they establish many more National Nature Reserves! I just love the coast, I love the interaction between the land and the sea and seeing the ways in which the plants and animals deal with it. Scotland is a much colder place than S.A. so the coast communities must be very different. But many of the waders migrate between here and there, for instance we get ruffs and curlews and greenshanks and sandpipers and stints - after breeding in the North they come here for a holiday.

But eider ducks, swans and geese, we don't have those! Imagine if ducks weren't afraid of humans and you could go up to them and stroke them! Imagine how soft an eider duck must be! And they're nice to look at, as well. Over here we just have regular ducks, and most of them are not as colorful as the northern ones. But I like them. We have a few variations on the duck theme, such as spurwinged geese and dwarf geese, but they are not "real" geese, but rather specialised perching ducks. Anyways I would go to the Sands of Forvie for the ducks alone! I dig ducks. Heh heh!

But there's still a shipload of places over here in S.A. that I haven't seen yet and that I must also make a point of visiting!

Your article makes me want to write up a few of the nature reserves that we have here as well! I guess I should start with the Kruger National Park!

Certainly you know of many more beautiful wild places? Keep it coming!
