h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

I heard recently that Moog (the name of the man most of old hippies remember as "the inventor" of the Moog synth) is actually pronounced like Moag with a long O and not like mood.

This sort of disruption to long held beliefs can be very unsettling to us old farts; and because I remain unwilling to accept just the single report I had heard, I am hoping someone with more interest and attachment to these things could clarify this for me once and for all.

I dare ask because it seems from the other conversation thread started here that there are actually some serious people out there with an avid interest in the mecho-electronics behind these things. Like most folks, at least those of 'M-m-m G-g-generation", I just listen and pass judgment.

As an old fart I have to say that I always knew it was pronounced Moag, I think first heard Whispering Bob Harris pronounce it that way on the OGWT when I was about 14/15

Yes, it rhymes with vogue. Weird that he chose to call his filter boxes Moogerfoogers. Moguerfoguers... sounds like someone cussing with a mouthful of cabbage.
