Does anyone know how Lorne sausage got its name?

Well it's a small world after all 
I dont really know the answer to be honest, but it may simply mean "Square Slice". I would postulate that the name "Lorne" was associated with the square slice - either because of places around the Firth of Lorne on the West Coast of Scotland, that happened to sell sausage meat in this form (ie square slice). Alternately this may have been a delicacy which the nobility (Lord Lorne et al) were fond of.
The recipe is steeped in Ancient History - but seems to be connected to the West Coast of Scotland.

I have never heard it called Lorne sausage in Glasgow. It has always been called square sausage to distinguish if from 'sausages' i.e. link sausages.
