Hi there,
Lorne sausage is named after the butcher who popularised it, and not the area around Oban. I can't remember exactly where the butcher operated. Strictly, although it is also called square sausage, it is usually slightly trapesium shaped, because of the metal dish it is made in. The dish is shaped that way to make it easier to get things out of it, and is also used for meat loaf, etc. (My father-in-law was a butcher)
