A Conversation for Making Your Own Cloak

When I was a student in the early 1980's, as well as for a few years afterwards, I wore a black cloak which I made. It was wool with a lining and had a heavy collar, but no hood. I can offer a few tips on wearing this type of garment, as follows:

-People will stare, get used to it, enjoy it.
-Wearing a cloak is the easiest way I know of identifying store detectives.
-Beware rose bushes.
-Be responsible, some people get intimidated easily.
-I'm not sure if they look so cool if you are trying to use a mobile phone.
-During design, ensure that there is room for at least three people.
-If you've never walked in a long dress (I'm thinking here particularly of the gentlemen) you will have to learn how to walk whilst wearing a cloak. I still have a modified gait, 20 years on.
-If you are going to get into or out of a car, especially when the weather is windy, planning is essential.
-Beware of being mistaken for staff if you attend any graduation ceremonies.

To make walking easier, you can throw one corner over your shoulder like a toga - it'll make it less likely to flap, but you'll also be less able to use your arms!

You can smuggle *anything* into a cinema, as well.

When my group did the stage show at a local cinema for the Lord of the Rings premiere, we stayed for the films - and brought in not entire crates of beer and cola, bags of crisps, and boxes of biscuits, but there were some Orcs who brought in an entire roast piglet.

They sat in the very front row and ate it, noisily and messily, during all the fight scenes to "add realism" smiley - silly
