A Conversation for 'Gladiator' - the Film
Effects on myself

The very first chapter of the movie, where the Romans battled the Germans, is the one which impressed me the most.
I think the film shows perfectly the atmosphere of damp German woods, on a morning in autumn. It reminded me very strongly, to the woods where I originate (Southern-Germany).
As they let 'hell loose' on the German-Barbarians I felt very sorry for them, 'cause they stood no chance against the Roman war machine.
I can imagine the terror the Romans spread (bringing the damp trees to burn, tossing burning petroleum kettles into the woods), and had to admire the courage of the old Germans, who tried to defend their homeland against all odds.
