Okay, now for the nitpicking... while I'm not as good as Fragilis I do have to argue with Anne Bolyn becoming 'king'. smiley - smiley
- Queen or Pregnant?

At this point if you were a newbie I'd ask if you'd submitted it yet smiley - winkeye

Of course I knew that. But if I say, 'I think you should submit this' and it gets rejected, I feel guilty. But if I say 'Have you?' although it implies that I think you ought to, I haven't said so in so many words.

Suggestion: a brief section on women who've had lucky escapes. Elizabeth I springs to mind, sitting at Traitor's Gate refusing to move...

Just because I have done substantial research on four of the already given tasks does not mean you can add more to the list. Who do you think I am Hercules? smiley - winkeye

Thanks Joanna..

It does need some refining which is why I haven't submitted it yet. smiley - smiley

An interesting historical note, however, if a woman was Queen Regnant rather Queen Consort, she would have been called Prince - the highest accolade of the era.

Excuse my ignorance- what's the difference?

Queen Regnant is a female sovereign in her own right. Since 1066 they have been. (Jane Grey), Mary I, Elizabeth I, Mary II, Anne, Victoria, Elizabeth II.

A Queen Consort is the wife of a male Sovereign.

Mary II was actually unique in British History by being both. Although Mary I and Mary, Queen of Scots were both at times married to other Reigning Monarchs. Must be something about Mary.

Being a pedant I'd better count in the Scottish one's as well.

Margaret (Maid of Norway), Mary (Queen of Scots)

It was my Gramps and father who taught me...

Ashley

what happened there?

They taught me because at school we did the Roamns to to the Hanoverians in one term and concentrated on modern history.

So, my gramps taught me all I needed to know about the monarchs and the magnificent matrons of history, while my father instructed mein historical literature.

My dad, bless him, has this wonderful ability of being able to recite poetry, verbatim, with hardly any effort. When he gets tipsy at Sunday lunch, and the mood takes him, he will satrt reciting Marlowe, Byron, Shelley et al while gazing lovingly into mama's eyes.
she then retorts

'Pass us the spuds before they get cold'.
