A Conversation for Five Ladies and the Tower of London

The execution site - or not?

Cheerful Dragon

The roped-off area you mention is often described as the site of the executions, but there is some doubt as to whether any executions actually took place there. According to some historians, the area was roped off because Queen Victoria wanted to know where the executions took place, and that was the spot that was picked. There is little evidence, if any, that it really was the spot used.

The only reason that this area is suspected to be the site is that it is the only area near the Queen's Chambers that has been paved for some centuries and is close to the church. All very tenuous I know smiley - smiley
