h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Antarctica is home to the dryest place on Earth - the Dry Valleys. These valleys (78 S, 50 miles inland, 2000 feet up) have the lowest precipitation in the world - even the Sahara gets more rain, and also gets a small amount of dew. One notable feature of these valleys is the presence of 'freeze-dried' seals, some of which look like they died recently but are, in fact, thousands of years old. There is also a frozen 'waterfall', which looks pretty strange.
