apparently the 1959 trety was not as effective as previously thought. Now they say The 1959 Antarctic Treaty between 12 nations including Britain and Argentina, outlawed the establishment of new territorial claims in the Antarctic, but stated that it did not reject existing claims. And in 2012 Britain wanted to name part of it in a section where they claimed jurisdiction, And Argentina strongly objected saying that was Argentinas right to name that piece, not the right of the UK.
