A great article about forks, but there's one thing that needs to be described: When you've finished eating let's say beef and potatoes and there's still some sauce left on your plate then we have the fuss. Not all forks is crafted with the spoon ability. If the tines go all the way to the handle there is no possible way of transporting the sauce to the mouth without spilling it between the tines.
If the tines stop about two thirds of the way to the handle the fork has the spoon ability. It is now possible to carry the sauce safely in the dent between the tines and the handle.
