A Conversation for Kate Bush - Singer/Songwriter
Fish and Chips in Luton
Carole Started conversation Feb 4, 2005
I know a man who once saw Kate Bush buying fish and chips in a fish and chip shop in Luton! He has told me this tale, which he always begins with "Now, here's a funny thing......", in excess of five times now. I am scared to even mention Kate Bush's name, or hum a few lines from "Wuthering Heights" within his hearing in case he tells me again.
Now what I want to know is what is so funny about Kate Bush buying her fish and chips at a fish and chip shop? Where else would she get them - a chemist?

What *does* surprise me about that is the idea that Kate eats , since she's publicly supported vegetarianism. Perhaps she changed her mind. Or perhaps she was just buying chips.

I didn't know Kate was a vegetarian. Of course, this man didn't say what she was buying. But some veggies do eat fish don't they?

Yes, that's true. But Kate apparently used to be a veggie, as this TV interview transcript - from a show where you wouldn't really expect to see her - attests: http://gaffa.org/reaching/iv80_ds.html .

Thanks for that - it was interesting that she says "vegetarians don't eat meat or fish". That proves pretty conclusively that she would only be buying chips. Apparently she was with a man (possibly her brother or a roadie (the man who tells the sttory says she was on her way back from a gig - it was late at night - or boyfriend) so maybe it was him that had fish!
Incidentally - did Kate live in the Luton area?

Not as far as I know. I haven't seen the place mentioned in connection with her. (I'm now trying to imagine her singing 'Oh Luton, my lionheart...')

Perhaps this man has a good imagination! I have to say he is a bit of a "name dropper" but I could never challenge him on it because he would sulk and not talk for weeks!

Yes, sulk, or perhaps just grope you!!!!
Carole - I can't believe that this story has now made it on to the global superhighway!!
I'm not keen on fish and chips myself, I would rather have a curry. I DO like Kate Bush, though - whatever happened to her? I thought she was supposed to have a new album out last April.

Lelly, really - that is a dimension to the story that everyone did not need to know on the great super highway!
There is a story about Kate Bush on Front page - and I think it is rumoured that a new album by Kate is due out this year.

Sadly, Carole, everyone else seems as interested in your "Here's a funny thing...." Fish and Chips story as you are!!!
What if it wasn't Kate Bush in Luton - what if it was just someone that looked like her? That's an interesting variation, isn't it? You Know Who would have been telling us all "a funny thing...." and it wsn't even true!!!

Well, Lelly, that had crossed my mind too but, allegedly, the person in question asked the man in the chip shop where he had seen that woman before and was told "That is Kate Bush", But the man in the chip shop could have been mistaken too I suppose because she never even lived in Luton. Perhaps Kate just has a doppleganger - we all have. Oh goodness, this is getting a bit silly isn't it? And I guess we will never know the truth of it unless we can ask Kate - who will probably have forgotten anyway
