Also interesting about Cork city is the English Market, where
cheese, fish, meat, poultry and an assortment of veg and spices
all compete to be the first to shut down your nasal passages.
If you're interested in food, it's a must to visit. Further,
Cork is the first location in ireland to host a road tunnel (in
this case, under the River Lee), which was built instead of a
bridge as Cork has an active port.

Thanks a lot - I hadn't thought of that. Also realised I spelt Midleton with 2 d's.

Currently the harbour is playing host to a family of orcas (killer whales). A very rare occurrance, or so I'm told.

If you're in Cork City, go to Oliver Plunkett Street and find a bar called the Hibernian, otherwise known as the hi-b. the gents toilet is the worst in the world (confirmed by the UN) and I don't know if there is a ladies but it's probably one of the most interesting places to stop for a beer. Also, check out An Brog (means the shoe I think), a nice slightly different pub. they sell Jaegermeister as well which is always a bonus.

In a bar called the Long Valley nearby, there was a time you could get a doorstep sandwich with your beer at any time of the day or night, while Wagner blared from a gramophone throughout the pub...

The Long Valley, now that's an interesting bar. Their toilet has an open ceiling which is great for sobering up between drinks..

Check out Luigi Malones restaurant as well (Oposite the opera house). Their chicken fajita is tops!

Oliver Plunkett Street is certainly the place to go for bars, as are a couple of streets just off there. I liked a few of the bars there but avoided the Hi-B as it looked like it had "the worst toilets in Ireland." The Bodhran is good for trad music but gets very full very quickly.
