I thought I might start this conversation so that people can put down any stories of synchronicity that they may want to share. . .

Chronicles of Synchronicity

[(had entered this as a new entry but thought I'd start of your chronicles for you ) - I shall enter more as well - I am haunted by irritating coincidences as well as harmless ones!]
My parents used to live in Cairo. I used to go to Boarding school in Blackpool.
On leaving Cairo some 3 years after I left the school, my mum and dad came back to England.
My mother, before leaving (to cut a VERY long story short) quit 2 part time jobs, which were taken over by a recent aquaintence of hers who also moved in to our aprtment and agreed to look after our cat rather than have it put down.
The woman eventually turned out to be the mother of one of my best friends who I had lost contact with and was subsequently put back in touch.
(I also have 3 previously unacquainted friends who now share a house in Sydney - they moved in together before realising they knew me!!!!)

Another...
I went to London this weekend to see my girlfriend. Minding our own business in the Slug & Lettuce I spotted a familiar face sitting nearby. Minutes later he came over;
"didn't I go to school with you?"
Yes, I reply
"didn't you used to have really long, stupidly-curly, hair?"
Great, he can't remember my name but he manages to dredge up pieces of history that I'd brushed over nicely until that moment...

Not a personal experience - but does this count?
This time last year (early Nov) three sporting legends died prematurely within a week of each other. All were in their early 40s.
They were:
- Payne Stewart - top golfer bloke (reigning US Open champion or some similar big major tournament).
- Walter Payton - the best ever running back in American Football history (at least in terms of yardage gained)
- Malcolm Marshall - at the time of his retirement, the leading wicket taker in international cricket.
What was the universe trying to tell us on that occasion?

No idea - although the fact that Payney and Malco were sportsman doesn't necessarily mean they were fit. Walt probably was!
Hooked one of my mates up with a close friend who lives in Australia a couple of weeks ago; close friend flat-shares with a girl who works in an estate agent's in Sydney and hooked them up on the premise that she may be able to help out with accomodation. She did, although without meeting my friend personally. They eventually did meet last weekend and it turned out not to be the first time - they both used to be shop assistants in Leeds Benneton!

Here's one that happened to me last year.
I was reading a book called "Synchronicity and You" which goes along the lines of this thread convo. About halfway through it, the author tells how he met someone with the same unique interest as him (something about the Egyptians, I think) and that they turned out to have the same birthday - 3rd November. Anyway same day I was browsing the internet and I was looking for info on Karch Kiraly, the top beach volleyball player and when I found some, it turned out his birthday was Nov. 3rd too.
So I was suddenly reminded of this yesterday when I was looking at a volleyball stats book (you may have guessed by now, that VB's an interest of mine) and couldn't think of what to look up. So I just plumped for good old KK and the first thing I was drawn to was his birthdate 03/11/??. So what you think? Well then I realised that in fact today was November 2nd. Oh well almost a coincidence!
At least I've submitted it today, November 3rd!!

Thats a good one .. okay here is my most recent one ... After meeting someone one day, over the phone watching this brill documentory with Terry Jones, I met her for real the next day. I told her about Eris and synchronicity, and she decided to be Eris for halloween. The next week we are both watching the same show and a bit comes on explaining the story of Eris! At exactly the same time in the program I met her the week before.
(PS Just noticed the Guide article on Discordianism is edited ..its http://www.h2g2.com/A258608 .. worht a look see)
Red Planet Synchronicity
Quantumechanic Posted Nov 12, 2000
Hi all, I was delighted to find a thread here on synch. as it is a reoccuring phenomenon in my life. I have an unofficial scale of
S1-S10 with an S5 being the most bizzare thing you could try to explain to a casual aquaintance and have any chance of them even believing you. I have bursts of S7 or so activity I'll have to post here sometimes, since you believe in the phenomenon already you might have a better understanding of what I'm talking about.
Before I get into anything personal though, I just saw the movie Red Planet, and wondered if anyone else had noticed that what starts causing their trouble is a solar flare/proton burst, and there is actualyl a huge one going on right now. According to Spaceweather.com this was a class 4 solar flare, and just being in a high altitude plane is like having 10 chest x-rays.
I give this about a S3 considering only 4 solar flares have happend like this since 1976 and the movie just opened, but I haven't had any personal weirdness that associates with it.

Don't know much about solar flares and their timing or duration. Is it possible that the movie makers knew this one was coming up and thought it would be a good way to attract attention / publicity.
My latest memorable synch event from last week. On the radio, one morning, they were doing a phone-in of famous 2nds e.g. 2nd man to walk on moon, 2nd in the Eurovision song contest etc. Anyway I was lying there (in bed) and suddenly thought "2nd to Daley Thompson in the '84 Olympics" and less than 10 seconds later the next caller asked the same question. BTW it was Juergen Hinksen or some similar named German bloke.
Keep watching the skies ......

Well, actually it is possible to predict solar flares by looking at the currents inside the sun. Thins only works for a few days out though, not the months it would take to make a movie.
Radio/TV synch is probably one of the most common. I've lost track of how many times I've been singing a song and turned on the radio to find it playing. Still counts though!

Go on, tell - but how is the S-scale actually calibrated? If a class 4 solar flare happens once in six years, and the movie was released within, say, three months of the actual flare, it seems that twenty four movies featuring strong solar flares would have to be released before it can be expected that such an event would happen by chance. How many movies in which there are solar flares have been released? Who would know?
And when does a Synchronicity rate S1? It has to be at least unusual enough to make you remark it, but how do you rate that? Is the S-scale logarithmic? Such as, an S2 is twice as weird as an S1 and a S3 is twice as weird as an S2 - or what?
But anyways I would like to hear about more such examples and I will aslo post some of mine. My life is just chock full of 'em - usually in the form of needing information and then getting it from an unexpected source.

How about that. Just after I posted this I realised that I had experienced a synchronicity this very day! It goes like this: until today I had never registered hearing the name "David Icke". But earlier today I noticed the name in a forum entry by Purplejenny. The name struck me because one place I have been going regularly is: http://www.davideck.com Which is quite a similar name but quite a good site. Whereas David Icke turns out to be rather strange. But anyways just after going to davidicke.com I came back to h2g2 and wouldn't you know it, I run into David Icke again. Twice in one day, and here's the proof: http://www.h2g2.com/F55169?thread=87934 http://www.h2g2.com/F57346?thread=86186&post=722638 Does that rate as an S1? And does the fact that this occurred on the very day that I first saw this "Synchronomancy" entry, and also in h2g2, rate as an S2?

This recently happened in the Utopia Cafbar. A bunch of us were sitting in a tree, goofing around, and in the process we seem to have invented the sport of Bungee Beer Jump-Drinking. I thought we were the first. So great was my surprise and dismay when just now, upon visiting Tashalls' page, I witnessed an early-twentieth-century girl uttering this question: "Do you intend to go bungee jumping with my beer barrel?" Apparently someone else thought of it long before we did. How so? I made inquiries. And what did I discover? That girl was making a random utterance! Tashalls has a random surrealism generator on her page that fabricates all kinds of ridiculous statements, questions and jokes based on a database of silly words and syntax rules! And it just so happened that the first time I visited that page, the random surrealism generator generated that particular question so eerily and appropriately pertaining to our recent activities over there! Spooky, huh??!! Here's the evidence: Tashalls' Page: http://www.h2g2.com/U137972 Of course that phrase will no longer be appearing there. It generates a new random phrase every time the page is reloaded. It might be an interesting statistical exercise to see just how many times the page has to reload before that particular phrase recurs!
