Hey, you left out the fact that Stockton was/is know as "Fat City" - reference to its years as center for boxing, both professional & amateur.

Also, a famous - but whose name excapes me - country singer, makes his home here - Buck Owens, by golly !

When I lived there (in the early 80's) it was still a rough town - my apartment was burglarized - and I lived in a very nice neighborhood.

I did not know about the "Fat City" reference. And I've never heard of Buck Owens, but I'm not a huge country fan. I'm not as biased against it as I once was, but I'm still not a fan.

There are a ton of other names for Stockton, most used would be Tuleburg. Also there is a persistant myth that Stockton is the "Mudville" fromt he poem "Casey at Bat". This season, our minor league team is called "The Muddville 9".

Yeah the crime rate can be pretty bad everywhere. I think I've just grown used to it...
