By rewriting, rather than updating, you have a better article, but you've lost our footnotes about the scaffolding and the coloured fields

Well yes - but _I_ didn't rewrite it at all....it was edited into shape.
(We shall just have to add the coloured fields and scaffolding again smiley - winkeye )

OK, here goes.
If you ascend either of the Lincoln heights, if it isn't raining (and you'd be a bit mad to go up the Castle Walk if it is) you'll see a beautiful field patchwork any time of year but especially when the oil-seed rape or the falx are in bloom. The top deck of the Lincoln to Grimsby bus is good for this too smiley - smiley

Extra points if you can guess what falx is smiley - smiley

...works up to "falx"... but the X3 bus is now a single-decker bus due to low demand (it was less than half full when Christina and I were travelling on it).

Now as for scaffolding - the Cathedral has been under a shroud of scaffold for as long as I can remember bu the cleaning has nearly finished so if you are thinking of a visit, this summer would be good.

Cheerful Dragon

Any cathedral Richard and I have ever visited has had scaffolding on the outside somewhere, and sometimes on the inside. In fact, it's not a proper cathedral if it's not at least partly shrouded in scaffolding!smiley - bigeyes

When I finished school (which now seems a very long time ago smiley - winkeye ) I did an inter-rail tour of the major European cities and the _only_ places we found that weren't under scaffold were the blue mosque and the Eiffel tower - though in the latter case, scaffold would be superfluous smiley - winkeye.
