A Conversation for Harry Potter

That is a long time to wait but I'd more or less forgotten about Harry Potter until I read this =)

I think this could be a good thing in disguise... what if the 5th book is being held back so that the 6th and 7th books can be released afterwards in 2 month gaps? Maybe I'm being too optimistic but I can see how it would be worthwhile holding the last few books back until they're all ready so that they can be released close to each other.

Having to wait at all after the 4th book was a pain in the neck... and since the plot just has to get even more involving as the series goes on I don't think it would be fun to face a long wait after each book.

Draw your own conclusion =)

There was an article in the paper the other day about a girl who found a mistake in the fourth book (my little sis has just found another, and is hoping to make it big... watch this space), anyway, JK Rowling said that she was very stressed with the publishing deadline and was not her usual perfectionist self. So that she wouldn't make any more mistakes, she's taking her time with the fifth book.

btw, is anyone here a fan of the "His Dark Materials" trilogy by Philip Pullman?

I heard there's quite a lot of mistakes - especially in the fourth one as it was written under such pressure.
A really obvious one in 'Chamber of Secrets' is where Dumbledore says that Voldemort is the last remaining ancestor of Slytherin, when in fact it should be the last remaining descendant.

But really does it really matter? How much does it affect your enjoyment of the books if Professor Flitwick's height changes every book (just for a random example)

Any chance of a brief summary of Dark Lord of Derkholm as I have just got the sequel "year of the Griffin " from the library and rather fancy knowing what I have missed.

She should try and get an extras slot in the film - I hear they're going cheap smiley - winkeye

So what if Professor Flitwick's height is different in every book? It is a school of witchcraft and wizardry. What if he actually does change height?

That was just an example (probably a very bad one) of why most of the "mistakes" in the book really don't matter

Yes, Phillip Pullman's books are very good.
I'm currently reading His Dark Material III: The Amber Spyglass.
I'd write an Entry on them if I wasn't so lazy of late.
I've also made a thread about a mistake that was found by SFX magazine whilst reviewing the Goblet of Fire.

Ever read Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan? The number of times the proofreader/s missed the substitution of saidar for saidin and the other way around is quite phenomenal - and very bad, considering the difference between the two.

Yes, that's something else I've got to read. I think I've read Northern Lights about ten times...

Yeah, the Amber Spyglass only came out a couple of days ago in the UK...
WHSmiths didn't have it, but Ottakers did.

Where?
Apparently Winter's Heart (the new Wheel of Time novel) doesn't come out here until the 15th but reportedly it's already being sold...

Would you recommend the Wheel of Time books?

Without hesitation. Go read Eye of the World first. Why? Because it's the first one. Follow it up with:

The Great Hunt
The Dragon Reborn
The Shadow Rising
The Fires of Heaven
Lord of Chaos
A Crown of Swords
The Path of Daggers
Winter's Heart

Have you read the Discworld books by Terry Pratchet?

A few of them. Couldn't really sit through them all though. I kept going off and reading Wheel of Time instead.
