Mason Williams was also a comedy writer in the early years of Saturday Night Live. In addition to writing the theme music for the show, he created many of their skits including the Pat Paulson for president gig.
He has also recently joined the line-up of recording artists seeking to increase their retirement portfolio by releasing a collection of Christmas tunes.

I believe you have Saturday Night Live confused with The Smothers Brothers' Comedy Hour. Paulsen first tossed his hat into the ring in the 1968 campaign, as the candidate of the Straight-Talking American Government (STAG) Party. SNL didn't appear until the mid 70s.
I've been a Masonite since the SBCH days, and I watched SNL from the beginning. I never noticed his influence on SNL.
