This I believe was a 4 cylinder car based on the prototype Spitfire GT. The original Spitfire GT was reportedly so underpowered it was an embarresment and shelved.
When preparing cars for Le Mans the body shape was used as the basis for a lightweight fiberglass body and an upgraded 4 cylinder engine was fitted. The car was extremely successful with a respectable top speed.
The GT6 was a niche market solution to providing a GT that was not embarrisingly slow and like most British sports cars was aimed at the lucrative American market. Triumph no doubt encouraged the belief that the GT6 was a development of the successful Le Mans Spitfire
I think the GT6 was a pretty car that offered long legged touring from a delightfully small package. Like Victor Kyam (?) of Remington fame I liked it so much I bought one. Unfortunately I was not able to buy the company.
