I got the chance to visit Krakow a couple of weekends ago, with the express purpose of visiting the Wieliczka Salt Mines. And very impressive they are too - the site of the world's first underground balloon flight, among other things.
And of course Krakow itself is also on this list and well worth a look (though a rainy November weekend is probably not the best time to see it). It turns out the square is the largest in Europe, and I got a chance to hear the Hejnal for myself.
Finally, Auschwitz/Birkenau is only a few miles outside the city, and just missed inclusion on this list, being granted World Heritage Status in 1979. Schindler's factory used to be in the Krakow suburbs, and the site is still visible (though currently being rebuilt as a museum).
