I assume Belakirov and Balkirev are alternative spellings for the same person, who I would have called Balakirev? or at least, that was the spelling I learned at school...
I studied some Russian music at a-level, including a piece by Borodin & I love this entry...

I must agree! Let's have some more of this! It's not every day one falls uppon something like this, since Russia's history and great people is not something most know that much about.

Ooh... positive feedback... this is a good thing.
I think they're the same person, yes.
The reason I wrote this entry was my profound love for Russian music... Borodin is one of my all-time favourite composers... I also play a lot of music by him in an orchestra which my friend Krans Hopeson (also a researcher) is a Horn in.
It would be nice to have more of this... so write it!

*just notices Joanna loves his entry, and is instantly happy*

I love it too...
Now...if only Borodin was one of the composers I have to cover for A-level...
Alas, he isn't...but I still enjoyed reading it...

Oh.. so find some and listen to some!... I think I said it in the article, but his Polovtsian dances are fantastic.. and his Symphony No. 2 is also brilliant.
(You'll recognise the Symph No. 2 from the Southpark movie trailer.. not sure about the film, since I haven't seen it... but part of the Symphony No. 2 is used on the movie trailer that appears on my Matrix video. )

Very good. And somewhat technical. But nonetheless, a good article. I like it very much. ...(but yours didn't have a picture... *grins*)
I think I shall aim to write an entry on each of the 5 Russian Composers as a long-term project. ... Then I can write an entry that lists them all and explains the 5 composers, and it'll look thoroughly impressive.
*checks to see no-one's watching, and then breaks into another smug "I'm the main reccomendation for the weekend" chant.

Yes, but Prokofiev's not approved, yet...
*pretends not to look jealous*
As long as I get to do Shostakovich at some point, and perhaps Stravinsky the 'musical businessman'...
Balakirev
njan (afh) Posted Jun 9, 2000
Oh, yes, I didn't notice that.
*grins and chants it again in order to extract a reaction*
But no! Both of those 2 figure in my top 10 of all time, and are hence mine. How bout we share them?

You probably know more about them than me... and I only really know about Stravinsky's russian style and his telling of falsehoods... but let me know when you write the entries & I'll come and praise them for you

He said that there was only one folksong in the Rite of Spring- the bassoon melody in the introduction, which is Lithuanian. He lied. There are I believe more than 80, all relevant to spring, and quite a few from the collection of Rimsky-Korsakov (I believe) who was his teacher.
