There seem to be many scientific theories that don't make sense and to my mind, it is because the theories are flawed in some way.
One of the problems with flawed theories ais that they can spawn new theories that make even less sense. Quantum physics for example.
I have never seen a satisfactory explanation of what it is that limits the speed of light, though I have an answeer for that. I also have never heard a satisfactory explanation of what prevents matter from exceeding the speed of light. The reasons may well be derived mathematically, but then if some of the basic theories of the nature of subatomic particles are flawed, then the maths will give erroneous results.
This thread seems to have died some time ago, so I will post again if any interested parties join in this discussion.
