The Hanging song.

Did you know that Fairport Convention did a song about John Lee, called the Hanging Song.

The lyrics here: http://lyrics.rare-lyrics.com/F/Fairport-Convention/Part-Xi-(the-Hanging-Song).html

And a musical version here: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=YzBRrXCNkUU

Excellent! Even if I am a bit biased!!!

Yes. In fact they did a whole album.

There's a much better version, with explicit Fairport refs, of the same Entry here: A2902600
Parts of that one are based on the lyrics of your song and others from the album.

The original plan was to link both Entries, provided the dramatised (and partially-fictionalised) one made the UnderGuide and so had a read-only replica as for the Edited Guide (see "The Other Version" subthread).

Jimster vetoed that idea. Disappointing to say the least. Maybe in these later days, the Slants will finally relent on the point.

Of the band, I still like Liege and Lief best (Tam Lin, Matty Groves, Crazy Man Michael). And Sandy Denny could never be replaced.

With you on that one, although unhalfbricking wasn't bad.

Missed Tom Swarbrick (Dave Swarb's nephew) at Broadstairs Folk Festival, so don't know how similar they are!
