I was told that I could not find certain person in Germany
Please prove them wrong!
Tell me where I could find information about people and where exactly they live in Germany. Recently I found two cities that that person must be in ;]]]]
The circle is closing.
But I need so much more...
HELP!

Hi Kanji,
maybe you just have to have a telephone CD-ROM, where most people are listed. If the name is seldom you might find the person at once, otherwise you have to phone a long, long list of numbers. Good luck. (By the way: who are you looking for?)
Regards

In case you don't have the CD-ROM, try (URL removed by moderator), this site has similar features.
Good luck.

Hi there,
the problem is German Laws for the Safety of Personal Data ("Datenschutzgesetz"). Though telephone CD-ROMs have the possiblity to search for a person German-wide (and also most of the big German telco's Telephone Directory Lines (Deutsche Telekom: 11833, Arcor: 11887, Telegate: 11880)) - however, the results from this search are limited. You might only get a phone number, and if you are lucky a street address, but that's it then. The amount of information you get is dependent on the information you told your telco to be included in the directory search. So therefore, if you do not want to be listed at all, no chance finding a person at all.
The Datenschutzgesetz aims to give individuals the highest amount of privacy possible. This is one of the highest principles of the German State actually. The State sees this as its major duty. Now due to this law, it is not as easy finding people in Germany as it might be in other countries. The private sphere of an individual is highly secured, and therefor there is no other means but the telephone directories (in any form) which themselves are dependent on how much information the individual person actually wants to be public knowledge.
You cannot go to say a ministary or the police and search for a person just because you like to find him or her again. You can only do so, if your search is based on higher grounds. You need to go to a local court and have a declaration that you need to find person XY out of this and this reason. With this declaration you can contact a German Ambassy or the "Ministerium für innere Angelegenheiten" and hand them over the search plea. They will crosscheck, if your search is legitimate, like maybe you search for someone who has inherited something or who has maybe lost a very close familiy member.
In case the person is not in Germany but on holiday in Europe, this search will be extendet by radio stations all over Europe (we call this system "Reiseruf".
So you see: you need a stong point to have an official search for someone. If you want to find an old friend back and can't find the information on telephone directories, as described in the other Feedbacks to your message, well, sorry, there is no way to find the person then...
Hope to have been of help, contact me for further information,
Getsumi

Could you please write something/anything on your 'My Space' by using the 'Edit page' button?
That will create a 'Discuss' button, that will make it possible for people to contact you - and I know there are persons just waiting to welcome you to h2g2... !

Many thanks about the valuable information
Yes, street number or a telephone numer will be great.
In fact - even the city will do.
And I have two from which to choose
