German wines

hi there,
i´m german and from the frankonian area (franken), the area around bamberg, nürnberg, würzburg.
there´s something about german wines, you all should know. it is not only the mosel region which produces pretty good wines (known in particular for the sweet stuff), but there is frankonia, too, famous for its dry wines, and most of them are absolutely exellent.
if you are a connoiseur, you should visit würzburg and the vineyards of the small villages around. taste some wines there, you´ll be surprised. the frankonian landscape is beautiful, the people are a bit stubborn, but friendly.
this is a real recommendation, try frankonian wines, if you want to experience the taste of brilliant full bodied dry white wines (some red ones, too).
have fun

Yes, Frankonian wines can be quite excellent ...

You should not buy the bottle for DM3. And you should also distinguish between the variuos grape-varieties. 'Müller-Thurgau' is not allways the best . . .
And a general rule (also applying to franc onian beer): The smaller the wine-yard, the better the wine.

That's definitely the hottest spot on the german wine map! It is said to be warmest region in germany. Some of europe's big reds come from this area.
Another very interesting thing is the existing of a semi legal but licensed wine pubs during summer (in germany in general!) what is called 'Straußenwirtschaft'. This is a good place to get something for your liver while walking thru vineyards. Mostly situated in the (small) wine producers home. They sell their own products (wine) and something small and traditional to eat for less money.

travel north from the kaiserstuhl to the kraichgau area, actually... the wines there are just beautiful, rare and hardly known, which makes them cheap... when you're travelling northt on the a 5 highway anayway, they're definitely worth a try...
