A Conversation for Dominoes
Caribbean Dominoes
Miriam Started conversation May 4, 2000
I live on an island called St. Maarten in the Caribbean. Dominoes is played often on the Caribbean islands.
I don't play dominoes myself (I'm originally from Holland and dominoes is mostly seen as a children's game), but in my school it's played frequently.
The thing about Caribbean dominoes is that they don't put them down like normal human beings, they slam them down as hard as possible (I never understood if it's a strenght thing or a intimidation thing or what...) and of course no game is complete with yelling and cursing on the top of your lungs

Hi Miriam:
I used to live in Suriname (South America), and dominoes was a popular adult game there.
Have you heard of a domino game referred to, in England, in the '40's or 50's as "balaclava"? Some distant relatives of mine supposedly played it. I would like to know the rules. I can't find anything on the internet so far.
Thanks,
Pup
