Apart from being able to beat you at simple dominoes, three-year olds use boxes and bones for construction work. So you very quickly have an incomplete set than which there is nothing more useless. Also they leave them whereever you are likely to be walking barefoot and, while not as lethal as Lego,some tiles have very sharp corners.I also knew a 3yr old who decided dominoes would be good to eat - they're not!
