I always thought that what made Chicken Fried Steak so special was that it was tenderised, more accurately pulverised, steak, battered and fried in chicken fat. Always served with mashed potatoes and gravy (the thick, white stuff not your standard British gravy).

You're absolutely right about the carbohydrate content.

What's really funny here in Texas is that chicken fried steak is so common, sometimes people will refer to fried chicken as chicken fried chicken, as if there was any other common way to fry chicken. it makes me laugh every time i hear it, and i hear it a lot here...

and I thought that Chicken Fried Chicken was the new, healthy eating alternative to Chicken Fried Steak !!
