While I realize that Bill the Cat is a "major" character in the Bloom County Comics, let's not forget those characters that the majority of the comic's stories include: Milo Bloom, Cutter John, Steve Dallas, Opus t. Penguin, Oliver Wendell Jones, Portony, Hodgepodge, Rosebud, and of course Milquetoast!
Bill the Cat was there, but for goodness sakes, the Bananna Jr. 2000 Computer had more story lines that Bill did, he was hardly an influential character on the story line most of the time.

My ultimate favorite is Opus. I can relate to him so much. But after that would be Oliver and Cutter John. Cutter John had the best lines in the whole cartoon. And being a fellow scientist, Oliver captured my heart.

How did I get this weird nickname? This is Pandora. Does anyone know where there are pictures or strips of Bill the Cat et al? I was reminded of him today and miss that strip ever so. The best cartoonists quit at the height of their powers, or I just don't know where to find Breathed's art.

Michael Binkley and his Anxiety Closet.
Steve Dallas is also my favourite. And Milo, especially when he was working for the newspaper. And all the Meadow boys, especially when they became the crew of the SS Interpoop, searching endlessly for the planet of student nurses with small noses, or whatever it was!
Remember when Bloom County was ended, before Outland began, when Opus was just out of a job for while, and occasionally he'd appear in other comic strips, looking? I think I wept when Ziggy was consoling him that he'd find something, just not to give up hope!
Bloom County must've been pretty heavily influenced by Pogo, now that I think about it. Another great strip...

By far I would have to say that Rosebud is my favorite char. The best of her was when the US Military wanted to use Rosebud as a nuclear weapon delivery system!

"yes, among the exhausted beaten runners in outland's rat race, a new cult had formed around an unlikely role model: the family dog... and pledged their lives dozing naked in the periwinkle."
the girl shows up, steve dallas, opus, and the guys run, and the dog says "hi. i've got lumpy fatty deposits on my butt." she says. "cool."
one of my favorites.

Gee... I'm only a year and a half or so late, but a bit of googling has turned up the following link (I've spent the better part of the last two hours exploring and wishing he'd come out of retirement!)
