SPINY (aka Ship's Cook)

It's a drink made from fermented apples. Sometimes it can be quite strong. The best cider is reckoned to come from Devon and Cornwall.

But do they sell any drinkable cider (ie. cider other than Blackthorn, Woodpecker and other such muck)?

The very best cider actually comes from a company called Westons, and if you taste it, you'll understand what I mean.smiley - smiley Maybe I'll bring a few bottles to Alton Towers...smiley - bigeyes

Ah, but the most lethal comes from a tiny place near Evesham called Wyre Piddle (no, really!) I used to go on training courses near Evesham, and the jaunt to Wyre Piddle was nearly always followed by stupendous hangovers sometimes lasting into next week. Mind you, what else can you expect from a drink whose fermentation period includes having a dead cat flung into the tank?

Hmmm... well I'd never have thought that a smiley - cat would improve the taste.smiley - yuk I'll stick to my genuine English cider made from real cider apples (none of this concentrate rubbish from abroad).

But back to the point... does the pub sell drinkable cider?

I've been reading up on Edinburgh pubs and smiley - ale elsewhere, and The Maltings is described as 'a student hangout'. That means cheap, right?!smiley - winkeye

I don't know if that's a yes, Pegasus, because the Maltings is not one of my usual hangouts.

As to students, it's because the Halls of Residence are just up the road, but school's out just now, so there won't be too many students around, and as to price, you'll find (if you haven't already) that nowhere in Edinburgh's cheap, except perhaps compared to London!
