Well you can get the so called waterproof matches.
These have the red stuff going further along the stick bit. It's also covered with a varnish like substance to stup ot getting wet and falling off the stick, but harder to light.
Try looking for them in outdoors or yachting shops.

It is possible to make your own waterproof matches by dipping the heads of ordinary (red, strike-anywhere) matches in candle wax. It works a treat.
