"salsa covers a lot more than ketchup does"
My point exactly! Salsa is covering a lot more food than ketchup is.
Actually, there is a lot of debate about whether Salsa is actually more popular in the US than ketchup is. I was just adding an interesting issue that hadn't really been covered by the entry.

*rolls eyes*
But surely salsa is something entirely different? When I think of salsa I think of what I dip my crisps into or Tabasco sauce, that kind of thing.

Funny. I put Salsa on my eggs in the morning. But then, I put my eggs on beans. And my beans on a tortilla.
Actually, it's a rare day that I dip my crisps in Salsa or use Tobasco sauce (which I wouldn't call salsa). Salsa is mostly used in cooking, as far as I'm concerned, in the same way that sauces are used in Italian cooking. So, yes, its different from Ketchup, which I have yet to find a use for.

And Salsa is certainly used on Hamburgers and Hot Dogs, which seem to be the prime places for Ketchup.

Doesn't 'salsa' mean 'sauce' anyway?
And if salsa is used in cooking, what kind of cooking is it used in?

Salsa is just the Spanish for sauce. And in spain, it means any sort of sauce, from gravy to jaeger.
"Funny. I put Salsa on my eggs in the morning. But then, I put my eggs on beans. And my beans on a tortilla."
How on earth do you keep all that on a tortilla?

Jaeger? Don't they make clothes?
I always associate salsa with Mexican/Spanish food, so that makes sense

"Salsa is just the Spanish for sauce"
And from the description in the entry, Ketchup is just (garbled) Chinese for garum or liquamen A2309645
(I can't believe you guys put that on your chips.)

Here's my menu:
Ketchup: French Fries, Cheap Steak (bad for fat)
Tabasco: Popcorn (better for fat)
Salsa: Tortilla Chips (homemade from corn tortillas, virtually no fat)
A bottle of ketchup lasts months, but I buy salsa by the gallon and it doesn't last long ...

Not me. Can't stand the stuff. I tend to have chilli sauce on my chips.

Here's my menu:
Ketchup: daughter's scrambled eggs. nothing else.
Tobasco sauce: Caesars and up the nose as a cold medicine
Salsa: Pretty much anywhere and everywhere (over enchiladas, eggs, burgers, pasta, corned beef hash.)

or gravy and cheese curds.
"The Quebecois invented poutine (a combination of french-fried potatoes, beef gravy, and cheese curds) sometime in the 1960s, and do not seem inclined to relinquish their attachment to it. Lurking within an average poutine is more than two-thirds of an adult's daily recommended fat intake. It does, however, surpass even Middle-Eastern pita-bread sandwich products as a post-binge digestive aid."
