In my view, one of the best things about the BM is the stairs.
Nice!

Those stairs were pretty much my first view of the interior of the museum, so I have fond memories of those stairs. On the downside, the enormously expensive cafe is up there. For something a little more palatable for the wallet, I would suggest either, as the article suggests, leaving the museum for a bite to eat, or eating on the entry level as there is a 'normal museum priced cafe' (which means packed sandwiches for £2.30) and U.S. cafeteria sorts of tables to sit at. Or pack a lunch and take it with you to eat outside on the steps if it's a nice day.

Are we talking about the same stairs? I am referring to the large stone ones to the left when you enter, not anything to do with the recent redevelopment.
Last time I went up those stairs it led to the Romano-British section, not any sort of cafe.
